County
P is a fairly long road that will take you across about
90 percent of Vernon County. Like most roads it has its
good points and bad. Ive broken it up into 4 maps so that
you can actually view it, otherwise you would need multiple
monitors to view the road in its entirety. Maps 2,3,4 are
probably the most fun due mainly to the road being better
quality. The first map may be a fun road, but it is often
covered in gravel, and tar snakes. Last year this section
of P was covered in tar and small pebbles whch made the
road harzardous to say the least. Further comments will
accompany the maps found below.

Route
The maps start in Coon Valley and heads east toward Westby,
Ontario, and finaly Hillsboro. But you could attack the road
any way you want. If you head north to Ontario on 131 rather
than take county P toward Hillsboro you will come into Ontario,
and Wildcat Mountain State Park. Take 33 east through the
park for some of the best twisties in this part of Wisconsin.
then find hwy 82 S and come back on county P to 131 again. |
Cautions
Again, the section of Cnty P between Coon Valley and Hwy 27
is not the best road to take at any high speed. The road is
not that great, but still fun. We'll find out what it is like
this year now that the tar they laid down last summer has
had time to seal. Once you get past Hwy 27 heading to Hwy
131, watch for Amish and tractors. The section in ma 2 and
3 is the best for opening up a bit, but be careful, depending
on the time of year there may be some surprises found in the
corners. Be prepared for blind decreasing radious 25 MPH corners
out of no where. Also on the parts of P east of 27 watch for
bicyclists and hikers, |
Law
Enforcement
If you are looking to get busted, you will in this area. basically
don't be a moron and pass people at 110 mph and expect not
to get pulled over at some point. Be respectful and courteous.
And you will be treated the same. |
Fuel
and rest stops
Fuel can be found in Coon Valley, Westby, and Hillsboro. There
is also a station located in Ontario which is north on 131
above Rockton. |
Places
to Eat
There is a great Italian restaurant in Coon Valley, A truck
stop in Wesbty and that pretty much it. Although there may
be something in Hillsboro. Other than that you are going
to be eating gas station cuisine. Rockton Bar often has
Chicken Q's and you can probably get a bite to eat there. |

Riding
Style
Maps 2,3,4 is the fastest part of this ride. Mainly due to
the road being so great. I could spend an entire week riding
this road back and forth. Relax and have some fun. |

To print
this page you can "fit to page" in your print
preview. If that option is not available then print at 80%
or less to get the web page to fit to the 8.5 X 11 page
you are printing to. If neither of those options are available
then choose to print landscape rather than portrait and
you will at least get the width of the screen on your paper.
If you experience any problems let me know.
