As you drive through the Wisconsin Bluffs along the Mississippi
river and the surrounding countryside you discover some
of the best Motorcycle roads in the area. Sure you won't
find Deals Gap Hwy 128 and the tail of the Dragon here,
but if you pick the right roads to take you just might come
close to the experience. Many of the roads in these maps
will give you a taste of everything. Whether you are looking
for that fast sport road that tests the limits of you and
your bike, or you are just looking for a country cruise
to enjoy with the family, you can find it here. Who needs
to spend $8,000 on some European trip when you can spend
the same on a motorcycle and begin motorcycle touring the
for the rest of your life.
These maps have roads that I have spent quite some time
on. I have been down many of them more times than I care
to count. Each time is just as fun as the first time. Simply
due to variations I make in my route ie; roads taken, aggressiveness
etc. If I am just working on riding technique I will find
the road with the most curves and have a good time practicing
my weight distribution and lean angles along with cutting
the right line through the corners. Other days I am in the
mood to just ride and enjoy being away from the city. On
those days I look for the straighter roads with the long
sweeping corners and the fantastic views.
In the future I want to add more links with info about
the area. A list of current happenings including festivals,
flood runs, shows, etc. As well as a list of local hotels
and bed & breakfast's that may be suitable to those
looking for a weekend away, with access to a variety of
great river roads and scenic rides.
These maps are meant to be used along with good store bought
maps. I have not produced these maps to scale and there
are bound to be mistakes. When I discover the mistakes they
will be fixed. To my knowledge the roads are accurate, however
their placement in relation to each other may be different
than actual. If you see a large gap between two roads don't
assume that road is several miles away, it may be closer
or further than it is represented. My apologies for this.
If you have any info you would like to add, or have some
roads you would like to see, just email me and let me know.

Wisconsin
has some really great road along the Mississippi river.
The road conditions are like any other state I guess, more
bad than good. The primary things to watch out for on WI
roads are..
Gravel. Abundant
amounts of gravel in the corners, on the hills and scattered
everywhere in between. The hills in early Spring and Late
Fall may have a layer of sand on them. the sand is spread
for winter conditions and remains of the road until we get
a fairly strong rain storm.
Tar Snakes. Instead
of making new roads WI just fills in cracks with Tar and
Toilet Paper. Many great county roads have been destroyed
due to this. The tar is ok in the cooler temps, but once
it warms up the stuff can be like ice. Watch your lean angles
as the rear end will slip right out from under you. The
other one you have to watch out for are roads that have
had a covering of tar and or tar/rocks.. this is done to
prolong road life, but it makes for a sticky cleanup and
dangerous conditions on the hot days.
Farmers and Live stock. You will
find this on any of the back roads around WI. The Farmers
may or may not check behind them before turing into fields
or driveways, so be careful passing them. Also you could
get hung up behind a tractor on any of the roads, Its been
my experience that passing them as soon as possible is the
best option. It would be far to easy for a car to come up
behind you on a blind corner and drive over you. Amish buggies
can be found scattered throughout the country side. Be careful
not to spook their horses when you pass, it may run right
into you. I always give them plenty of room when I pass.
Livestock may be found standing in the country roads. Don't
think you will hit one of our beef cows and live to talk
about it. those things can weigh a ton or more. Also keep
an eye out for deer. Especially in the fall when they are
rutting and moving allot.
Bad Drivers. You will come across
everything, Kids racing their parents car or truck on the
back roads, old couples out for a Sunday cruise, tractors
with manure spreaders, milk truck drivers racing to get
their jobs done. Dump trucks filed with sand/dirt/rocks
which will pelt you or sandblast a layer of skin off. And
your typical jerks who think they own the road. Expect the
unexpected!
Fuel Stops. Check your fuel level
often. It may not seem like you have traveled far, but these
back roads can be longer than you think. Check your fuel
everytime you come through a town with a gas station and
keep an eye on it after that. I always reset my trip meter
when I fuel up so that I know I will need fuel again in
150 miles.
